Greetings master builders , i know we are doing alot to make this world a better place, but are we doing enough so that what we do will be remembered in history ?

well , lets put a brick to our great successful architectural work story ,

=> Today i am going to talk about how to make 3d models out of 2d plans imported from autocad , the tips and tricks to make the process faster , efficient, smoother and worth paying , i know most of us just want to dive in 3d modelling without understanding the need of accuracy of plan for a architectural house or model , now , one must understand the fact that most important part of modelling a house is drawing the walls from 2d plan.

so, here is my quick non-time consuming method which will promise to extrude and wall from any plan in a few minutes,

the exercise file is included in downloads in end of the post ,

Step No 1:  first of all make sure your autocad file is in dwg format , also the version of the autocad file should be lower than that of sketch up , for e.g autocad 2013 file will work flawlessly in sketch up 2015

Step No 2 : Remove all unnecessary objects from autocad file in using autocad software , the way of doing it is press CTRL +A and and  pressing shift while selecting the plan you want to import to sketch up

Step NO 3 : enter the command ''purge ''and then select purge all to delete all properties of  recently deleted objects to decrease the size of auto-cad file , now we are ready to import it in sketch up

Step No 4: open sketch up and from file menu select import,as soon as the window import window opens , change the format from "all supported images " to "autocad files (dwg or dwf)",

select the the correct units and the file from the required location and select import

Step No 4:the plans imported looks like the figure given below all nasty and creepy right?
press CTRL+A then  right click on any lines imported and select "Make Group"

Step No 5: Now , from camera options select parallel projection

Step No 6: also  , from camera options select standard views> top

Step No 7:    Now , press "L " from keyboard and start tracing the exterior lines of walls imported from autocad,BY click on every corner once, and continue till the last point, and make sure a surface is produced , other wise repeat the processs.

WARNING:  TRY NOT LET THE CONTINUITY OF THE LINE BREAK FOR BEST RESULTS, EVEN IT DOES BROKE CLICK ON THE LAST POINT AND CONTINUE TILL THE STARTING POINT

Step No 8: press "F " from the keyboard and click once inside the surface made in the previous step and then press 0.2 m for according to the size of the wall

step no 9 : select the wall space and make reverse face such that white face is towards you ,

step no 10 : And then press "P" from keyboard and click on the wall and enter the required plinth level for my case 0.45m and press enter, then again click on wall face and enter the wall height 3.2 and then again repeat the same process and enter 1.0  for roof wall, the model will become ,

**** final model looks like ,,  :)
